This module has discussed how assumptions dictate interpretations and convictions, including how Darwin's assumptions at Santa Cruz influenced his work in biology.
We examined the Flood of the Bible: | The physical processes mentioned in Genesis The flood predictions based on Scripture The types of deposits predicted by supporters of a global flood | Some of the questions that were answered included: | How there was sufficient water to cause a global flood that covered the mountains? Where did all the water go after the flood? | We looked at the scientific evidence for a global flood | A. Catastrophic deposition B. Regional stratigraphy C. Large-scale erosion D. Intense volcanism E. Post-flood readjustments | We studied Mt. St. Helens for examples of recovery from a catastrophic event. Then used this data to project expectations from a major catastrophe, such as the Flood. We considered how the discovery of a 450-foot ark on top of a high mountain would provide evidence for a mountain-covering flood, a flood that would have been worldwide in scope. We saw how such evidence would have dramatic geologic consequences. We learned how the widespread nature of flood traditions throughout the entire human race is excellent evidence for the existence of a great flood from a legal/historical point of view. We analyzed how the post-flood readjustments would provide the necessary conditions for an Ice Age. |
