Argument 3: Figurative Meanings

The terms "evening" and "morning" have figurative meanings.

Response:
The words "morning" and "evening" occur together 38 times outside of Genesis 1. In every instance, they refer to a literal day. "Morning" and "evening" are each found with Yom 19 times outside of Genesis 1, and every time they signify a 24 hour day.

Nowhere in the Bible is there an example of Yom combined with the words "morning" and "evening" referring to a long period of time.

Further, God Himself defined the days of creation as literal days in Exodus 20:9-11 when He gave the command to work for six days even as He worked for six days and to rest for one day as He rested one day. To interpret these days as long ages separating acts of creation is to diminish God's command that we pattern our workweek after His with one day for rest and worship.
