Argument Summary In the Old Testament, the most common meaning of the Hebrew word Yom is a literal 24 hour day. Every time Yom is combined with a number, it refers to a literal day. Every time Yom is combined with the words "morning" and "evening" it refers to a literal day. The absence of the definite article before Yom in Genesis 1 does not imply that the noun "day" is indefinite because it is combined with a number which is definite. If God had intended the Israelites and us to understand that the days were long periods of time, He could have easily used another word to clearly indicate it. |
